The Capitoline Museums

A half-day private walking tour of the Capitoline Museums.

Itinerary

The Capitoline Museums (Musei Capitolini) are located on top of the Capitoline Hill, in Piazza del Campidoglio, the square designed by Michelangelo during the Renaissance time.

The museum is a fabulous archeological gallery divided between 2 buildings, linked by an underground gallery.

Your guide will show you around the highlights of this large collection, which includes ancient Roman statues, inscriptions, mosaics and other artifacts: among them the famous Lupa Capitolina (she-wolf with the twins), the colossal Head of Constantine and the imposing statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, which is the only bronze equestrian statue remaining intact from the ancient Roman time (the one in the middle of the square is a copy). At the end of the tour you can't miss the panoramic view from the Caffarelli terrace (museum cafeteria).
