It was founded by the Greeks around in 9th Century BC, later become part of the Roman empire and lived a period of splendor when was the capital of the Kingdom of Naples and Kingdom of Two Sicilies in the period between the 12th and 18th Century. 

The city is extremely rich in arts with beautiful palaces, churches, squares and castles from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods, but is also the place where pizza was invented !
